Communication for policing
Communication is often a neglected dimension of institution-building and police reforms. We see communication as essential to bring change. In a pluralist environment, senior managers must be trained to interact positively with media, including new media such as social networks. Social skills of police station staff are the essence of community policing. Communication strategies are needed to facilitate the implementation of the leadership's vision and in law enforcement and prevention initiatives in matters such women abuse or environment. Communication brings messages but it is also the message itself: it signals transparency, responsivness, and accountability to the public. It signals democratic policing. Finally, it serves internally to dignify police members, mobilize staff around core values, and lead to democratic change.
