Police Reform & Security Sector Governance

Public Security Governance

1. We conduct theoretical and empirical studies on good practices in civilian governance of security.

2. We support states and ministries in the creation of national structures, mechanisms and enabling legislation for the civilian control of public security agencies as well as private security companies.

3. We have developed a methodology to accompany governments in developing strategic plans for internal and public security.

4. We assist states in establishing strategic administrative units such as national councils of public security, police inspections or local security committees.

5. We support the establishment of coordination mechanisms amongst security stakeholders at both decentralized or federalized levels.

6. We assist with the establishment of independent organs to oversee, collect, control and protect data related to human rights abuse by policing staff.
