DRC: Success of the workshops organized in March on the theme “Women and insecurity”

On the occasion of last March, dedicated to women's rights, workshops were organized within the framework of the Police Reform Support Program in the Democratic Republic of Congo (PARP III), financed by the Union European and implemented by Coginta. Thus, the local local security councils (CLSP) of the three provinces covered by the project – Équateur, Ituri and Kasaï – organized workshops devoted to the theme “Women and insecurity”.

Led by members of CLSP, civil society, magistrates, child protection and sexual violence prevention officials, these forums aimed to organize a forum for expression in which women participated. originating from each district of the reference municipalities. During these workshops, the aim was in particular to discuss the attacks to which women are very often victims; namely sexual violence, the questioning of their rights in general, or even early and forced marriages. It was also a question of identifying the causes of this insecurity, of recalling the rights enjoyed by women, as well as the measures to be implemented in order to inform the police and the courts of the facts of which they are victims.

The PARP III project, for its part, will continue to raise awareness among the various stakeholders so that women's recommendations are taken into account and actions are regularly carried out to ensure that women's rights are recognized in the community. The project will also more specifically support organizations involved in the protection of women and vulnerable people, in particular through the allocation of subsidies linked to the implementation of micro-projects.
