Ivory Coast: The formulation mission of the SECORCI 2 project

Our teams participated, from March 7 to 14, 2024, in the formulation mission for the second phase of the project to support the security and valorization of artisanal gold mining as a factor of development and social cohesion in the north of Côte d'Ivoire (SECORCI 2), financed by the European Union and implemented by Coginta. Under the supervision of the National Security Council, this interministerial mission saw the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Mines, Oil and Energy, the Ministry of Water and Forests, the Ministry of the Environment and SODEMI, with the participation of Coginta’s Executive Management.

The objective of this mission was to meet and conduct consultations with the various stakeholders in the department of Tengréla, in Yamoussoukro and in Abidjan. Numerous interviews were conducted with local and customary administrative authorities in the localities of Tengréla, Papara, Kanakono and Débété. The delegation was able to discuss with representatives of young people and women, mining cooperatives and internal security forces on the issues relating to the structuring of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) and the fight against illegal gold panning.

The project's orientations were validated with the various supervisory ministries in Abidjan, as well as with the European Union delegation. The priority areas were thus formulated and the activities to be carried out identified to promote responsible ASM on social, environmental and health levels, in a secure environment.
